Abenteuer Heimat - B8 - Schicksal eines Ortes

Description

As part of our series of events "Adventure Home", you will learn informative and interesting facts about the B8 fateful road of the village of Weyerbusch. Between Bad Marienberg and Windeck, everyone knows Weyerbusch - from driving through it. Anyone travelling from the Westerwald to the Cologne/Bonn area passes through the village on the B8. It has only 1,500 inhabitants, but is usually thought to be much larger because of its numerous shops and pubs, health and educational facilities. The road is the weal and woe of the village, because it not only provides for this outstanding infrastructure, but also for 17,000 vehicles daily with all their noise and dirt. This fate is shared by other communities on through roads, but Weyerbusch is special: it exists at all only because of the road. The tour guides Christine Grabowsky and Silvia Patt shed light on the fate of a community on an ancient military and trade route with all its advantages and impositions over the centuries - from uninvited visits by Napoleon's troops to the everyday life of post riders, from Raiffeisen's commitment to road construction to the question of what the Catholic church has to do with the bomb carpeting of the Second World War. Note: The event expressly does not deal with the pros and cons of a bypass road for Weyerbusch, but exclusively with historical aspects.
