Event
This special flock of sheep has already been to 160 cities, including Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Vienna, Brussels and Luxembourg.
It consists of intensively blue-coloured sheep figures made of cast polyester resin, which are about 70 centimetres tall. They were created by the artist Bertamaria Reetz and Rainer Bonk. Bertamaria Reetz has further developed the art project to promote social values, social as well as tolerant thinking and acting.
"It is a symbol for human togetherness, appeals to social responsibility and promotes a tolerant attitude. Blue as the colour of peace finds its counterpart in the blue of the EU, the UN, Unesco or Unicef. It is the colour of the European peace movement." This is how it reads on the website. And: Since 2012, the Blue Peace Hearth has been under the patronage of the EU Parliament.
Now the curator Marli Bartling (Stöffelverein) has succeeded in bringing the Blue Sheep to little Enspel after meeting the artist in Knechtsteden near Cologne. She received the acceptance in writing: "We are very happy to realise the creative-social idea of community togetherness together with the Stöffel Park," it says. And it explains: "Every town that grants grazing rights to the blue sheep becomes part of the art project and thus documents social responsibility. As a thank you, a blue sheep will remain in the town hall of the respective city." With its message, the art project fits in perfectly with the anniversary year of the Westerburg Association Municipality.
The big event is already casting its shadow, or more precisely: its sheep. Because a few of them - eventually there will be 30 - have already been spotted in the upper Westerwald... Slowly but steadily, the peace flock is growing. It could also be an incentive for the citizens of the region to become creative in the direction of social responsibility and a tolerant attitude. After all, the Shaft stands for "Everyone is equal. Everyone is important". For others, the action could simply be a confirmation of their commitment. By the way, the blue sheep and lambs of the "Blauschäferei Reetz" are hand-dyed in the Sozial-Betriebe-Köln gemeinnützige GmbH, i.e. by people with disabilities.
