Description

Children, parents, and educators of the Villa Kunterbunt kindergarten in Birnbach created this themed path in 2005. A great project inaugurated on the 30th anniversary of the Villa Kunterbunt kindergarten. Since then, the stations have been lovingly maintained, repaired, or equipped with new attractions. All the children's senses are addressed. At the "Moments," we can, for example, see the surroundings in various colors through colorful glass eyes. With a crank, we can create "Wind Sounds" or make wood sing on the Dendrophon. The large forest listening tube lets us listen deeper into the forest, and the "Embrace" shows us what trees are capable of together.
We will also encounter a woodpecker (knocking with our help) and various fluttering spirits. At the halfway point of the path, there is a small resting area with a wonderful view of the landscape.

Directions

Where the Bergstraße and Lerchenweg meet, the Explorer Path begins. After a short distance, we come across the "Moments" that make our surroundings appear in many colorful hues. Colorful, but also sonorous, is the station "Wind Sounds." With a sound chime and a clever organ pipe, we can "call" small melodies into the forest. Balance is then required at the "Bridge by the Stream." Just as much concentration and patience is needed for the forest listening tube, with which we can better hear the sounds of the forest. Before that, we also pass the wooden xylophone "Dendrophon." Along the wind wall and past the knocking woodpecker, we reach the resting area. Here, a beautiful panoramic view awaits us, which we can perceive a little more focused with the help of the station "Clear View."
Next, we go past a fragrant corner to the tree telephone. Here, the impressions gathered so far can already be passed on by knocking signals. Then follows the "Silent Forest." An invitation to let the silence of the forest take effect. We only hear and see birds, squirrels, and other forest inhabitants if we move quietly through the forest.

Attention increases, and certainly, we will not overlook the intertwined pine (embrace) and the fluttering spirits.
And finally, we still cross the "Snake Pit," a bare spot caused by the bark beetle. With a lot of skill, we manage to follow the path to the tactile street over the crosswise lying sticks.

At the end of the path, a riddle awaits us. A stone figure whose body shape has not yet been fully clarified to this day. Maybe you know the solution? And now we wish you lots of fun experiencing the Explorer Path in real life in the Verbandsgemeinde Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld.

Tips

Not far from the path is the Romanesque pillar basilica in the village center. A stately church from the 12th century with a turbulent history. Short video on the church history
