Geführte Wanderung Marienthal-WW Steig- Wissen

Description

Guided hike from Marienthal via the Westerwaldsteig to Wissen
We meet at 9.30 am at the railway station in Marienthal. Our hike starts here. Important: If you are travelling by train, please arrive early at the RegioBahn station in Wissen so that you can buy an inexpensive group ticket. Please do not forget to press the stop request button on the train before the required stop at Marienthal (listen for the announcement on the train). From the stop, a path leads to Marienthal and reaches the Westerwaldsteig trail at the former monastery. The first ascent of the Hümerich awaits us there. Above the village of Racksen, the view widens out over Kroppacher Schweiz towards Hachenburg and Bad Marienberg. We descend into the quiet Seelbach valley, follow the Seelbach uphill on the Sonnenweg towards Isert and cross the main road. Above Alhausen, there is another beautiful view over the Nistertal valley into the Westerwald. The trail now descends steeply to the Nister and we follow the path further downstream. Shortly before the small village of Flögert, the path leads uphill, from where we are once again rewarded with a view of the Nistertal valley.

We then follow a flat meadow path along the Nister to Helmerother Mühle. There is the longest suspension bridge in northern Rhineland-Palatinate, which we then bravely cross. We continue through the meadows along the Nister to Helmeroth. On narrow paths, the trail climbs steeply up to the "Schöne Aussicht" with a view of the Nistertal valley with its campsite and the mountains, then descends again to the "Pionierbrücke" bridge and up again to the Nisterberg forester's lodge. We continue to Glatteneichen and the end before tackling the final ascent to the "Steimel", which offers great views. Before we descend back into the Siegtal valley, it is worth enjoying the marvellous views. When the weather is good, our view sweeps north into the Bergisches Land, east to Siegen and west far into the Siegtal valley. Then we leave the heights behind us, walk down through the Köttingsbach valley with its tree nature trail and follow the course of the stream past the Schützenplatz to Wissen. The hike ends at the RegioBahn station in the town centre. If you wish, you can then take advantage of one of the refreshment stops (e.g. in the old town centre, at the RegioBahnhof or "Germania"). Please note: Participation in all guided tours is at your own risk. The trail leads along narrow and steep forest paths, some of which have an alpine character. Sturdy footwear and surefootedness are therefore required. Due to the duration and length of the route, each participant should also take sufficient provisions and drinks with them.
