Event
Author Horst Eckert will present his new political thriller "The Year of Greed" on Thursday, 2 June 2022 at 7.30 pm in the Stöffel Park in Enspel. Heinz Fischer (known, among other things, for the "Westerburger Gespräche") will be the moderator.
The Heyne publishing house on the content of the brand new novel: The pursuit of success knows no bounds. And no mercy. The British journalist Oscar Ravani is attacked with a knife in the open street of Düsseldorf. A racially motivated assassination? Detective Melia Adan and Chief Inspector Vincent Veih want to take another look at the statements. But a supposed witness suddenly disappears. Ravani himself remains silent. With his research on a large financial service provider, however, he may have made enemies. The company is considered a German model enterprise with close contacts to politics. How much of this success story is genuine?
For their investigation, Vincent and Melia enter a sinister parallel world of unimagined dimensions. And a press review says: "The clever balance between thrill and entertainment exerts an irresistible pull and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very last page."
Horst Eckert was already reading at Stöffel Park in 2020! Although the public event had to be cancelled at short notice (because of Corona, of course), a film was quickly shot instead. And it can be seen here. What is pleasant (and not self-evident) is that Horst Eckert not only has a relaxed way of writing that combines fiction with current (socio-)political events in an exciting way. He can also read aloud well and has a pleasant voice. In addition, interesting topics come up in conversation with Heinz Fischer. And one thing is clear: this author loves his job.
Eckert was born in 1959 in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate and grew up nearby, in Pressath. He studied in Erlangen and Berlin, graduating as a political scientist. Jobs as a beer hauler and lift operator, but also as a guest student in the Berlin ZDF studio followed. In 1987 he moved to Düsseldorf for love. For 15 years he was a television reporter (for WDR regional television, Tagesschau, Vox, RTL-Nachtjournal, among others), since then he has been a freelance writer. At the beginning of 1994 Horst Eckert wrote the rough draft of Anna's Legacy, his debut novel, in only eight weeks. In the process he tasted blood.
To date, he has written 15 novels, a crime story and numerous short stories. More information on the author and his novels can be found on his homepage. A highly interesting interview (from 2017) with Eckert, which also provides insights into his writing process, can be read here.
