Event
This Sunday is Monument Day. Instead of going on another monument tour in WällerLand, this time it's called "Treffpunkt Backes". It is supposed to be a sociable get-together in Gershasen, where a little curiosity is welcome.
Here, the environment and nature merge with old and young customs and traditions.
The bakehouse will be heated up and bread will be baked on site. You can look over the shoulders of the members of the baking group. And, of course, the warm bread will be tasted later: Homemade sausage will be provided for the Backesbrot and jam, guests are welcome to bring their own homemade jam.
There will also be an excursion to the Ofenkauten. Because in Gershasen there was the right stone for the Backes - it has its own history and it is connected with the Eifel. And that is why some oven builders lived here in the village.
The local residents, including Bärbel and Martin Rudolph, can tell a lot about this. Even the street names give some clues.
On the upper floor of the Gershasen bakehouse there is also a neat little museum that is very appealing. It would be no wonder if even one of the old spinning wheels would start to turn again... The event and the entrance are free of charge, only any cold drinks have to be paid for. All in all: it will be a cosy, rustic story. Please do not forget to register!
