Familien-Erlebnis-Wanderung in Breitscheid

Description

6 August 2023 W9 "Family adventure hike in Breitscheid".

To get families with children and young people excited about being outdoors, nature and our Westerwald homeland, we are going on a journey through time together on this year's "Family Adventure Hike". We'll be going way back in time. On the Kaarst and nature trail in Breitscheid, children and their siblings, together with their parents and grandparents, can experience nature, above and below ground, with all their senses.

In addition to the children and parents, the hike is especially aimed at hiking grandmas and grandpas, who are guaranteed to inspire their grandchildren (or those of their acquaintances) with this tour!

The family adventure hike is an event organised by the Westerwald Association for all generations.

It's going to be exciting today!

We are on our way for about 4.5 kilometres on our hike through the forest and the mysterious Gasseschlucht. But that will hardly be noticeable, because we will not hike the path without fun and games, stories and participatory activities, and we will also solve one or two riddles together.

The first riddle is already waiting for us at the meeting point of our hike. Here the Erdbach disappears into a hole in the ground. What happened here? Was it the dwarves or why does the water disappear? The children and the adults will experience a lot more on the way!

Curiosity and the joy of discovery are awakened and we also have to be quite brave, because we disappear into a cave and explore a mysterious passage through the cave in the light of our torches.

A long time ago, cave bears and Stone Age people lived in the cave, so let's see what we discover today... Back in daylight, we search together for the missing Erdbach stream and cross a secret passage to climb through a narrow gap in the rock in the valley basin...

Well, who dares to do that?

At the end of the hike, we all get to go into a really big cave. The speleologists exploring the cave have named it the Autumn Labyrinth because there are so many underground passages and caves.

125 steps over a distance of 45 m lead 21 m into the depth of the Autumn Labyrinth Cave. In the cave we see amazing stalactites and crystals sparkle and shine in the light. If we are very, very quiet, we can hear drops of water dripping from the ceiling. If we are lucky, we might also see a sleeping bat hanging from the ceiling.
