Walter Sittler and musicians present: "A Man in the Snow Christmas with Erich Kästner in Westerburg.
When Walter Sittler interprets Erich Kästner texts, it is an experience that inspires. He has already proven this to the audience in Westerburg several times. Now the program "A man in the snow" is to be seen on Friday, December 9, 2022, 20 o'clock, in the town hall Westerburg. It had to be canceled twice before due to Corona, but now the Sainscheid Cultural Association is optimistic about the third attempt: "All good things come in threes!"
This Kästner program is a tale in two parts: The story of a man whose thoughts and experiences come together to form a winter journey, beginning in the 1920s and ending on New Year's Eve 1945. And Erich Kästner would not be the poet he is loved and appreciated as, if he did not use the subject "Christmas" to direct his analytical view on time and man, a humorous observer and sharp-tongued admonisher of unstoppable topicality. And this is supposed to be a Christmas story? Oh yes! Not one that drips with kitsch, but one that tells of war and peace, of love and humility, and of how people could treat each other if they only wanted to. A Christmas story that deals with the basic questions of being human. And typically Kästner: melancholic and ironic moments alternate, a melange of humor and thoughtfulness.

The youngest of eight children, Walter Sittler was born in Chicago, USA in the early 1950s. After his parents - an American professor of German and a German teacher - returned to Germany in 1959, he spent much of his school years in German boarding schools. After graduating from high school, he lived for a year with his sister in Lima, Peru, where he learned Spanish and, upon his return, decided to study medicine. He bridged the waiting time for a place at university by working as a nurse in various clinics. In 1977, he accompanied a friend to the Christmas party of the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich and was so enthusiastic about acting that he spontaneously applied. His acting training was followed by permanent engagements at the National Theater in Mannheim and the Staatstheater in Stuttgart.
Walter Sittler became known to television audiences through his leading role in the ZDF series "Girl Friends" - and of course through the award-winning RTL comedy "Nikola," where he plays the role of a doctor alongside Mariele Millowitsch. Other roles in the ZDF series "Der Kommissar und das Meer" and also in stage productions: "Cheers, Uncle Erich" and "Als ich ein kleiner Junge war." The latter was awarded the Erich Kästner Prize for Literature in 2009. In addition to his artistic work, he convinces with his commitment to education and democracy.
