Weihnachtsdorf Waldbreitbach

Description

The idyllic village of Waldbreitbach in the Wiedtal valley has been transformed into the Waldbreitbach Christmas Village for over 30 years. This is not a fenced-in market square or a village of huts, but the entire village itself is decorated with Christmas attractions and numerous nativity scenes. From 2 December 2023 to 28 January 2024, it will be atmospheric when everything shines in golden splendour. The special feature of the Waldbreitbach Christmas Village is that all the attractions are spread out widely in the village in the open air. They all remain set up until the last Sunday in January, can be visited daily and admission is free. For the ceremonial opening, there will be a torchlight procession through the village on Friday, 01.12.2023 at 18:00, during which all the attractions will be lit up for the first time for this season. The Wiedklang music society accompanies the procession and also plays at the craft museum at the end, where mulled wine and döppekuchen are served. The large natural root nativity scene in the parish church of the Assumption of Mary can be set up in its regular place again this year. The other highlights are the "Star of Bethlehem" - a walking path equipped with 3,500 light bulbs and over 30 nativity scenes, the floating nativity scene and floating Advent wreath on the Wied, the life-size figures from the Ore Mountains on the church steps, the open-air nativity scene and the Schwibbogen nativity scene. The Christmas illumination on the 18 m high guild tree with a diameter of 6 m and almost 10,000 LEDs provides a golden sparkle in the centre of the village. A total of more than 70 stations light up along the "Nativity Trail", which runs a good 2 km along the banks of the Wied and through the village. These include lovingly designed small nativity scenes in shops and private gardens. Open guided tours take place on the following days from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for €4.00 per person: 9/12/10/12, 16/12/17/12, 27/12/28/12/29/12/30/12/23 and 6/1/7/1 and 13/1/14/1/24. Group tours can be booked at any time. On the 2nd and 3rd weekends of Advent (9.-10.12. and 16.-17.12.) the Christkindchenmarkt takes place. The Christ Child will drop by with small gifts and be available for photos. Music clubs and musicians from the region play on the stage. The Christmas Village Rally for children and young people up to the age of 18 is taking place again this season. You have to answer 10 questions about the Christmas Village. If you hand in the completed quiz sheet to the Tourist Information Office by 28.1.24, you will receive a small surprise! Have fun! To round off a day trip to the Wiedtal, why not enjoy lunch or coffee and cake in one of the restaurants and cafés? Reservations are highly recommended, even for small groups. Free information material is sent out by the Wiedtal Tourist Association, and visitors can find souvenirs or Christmas gifts at the local tourist information office. On 27.1.24, the VfL Waldbreitbach organises the Christmas tree throwing. Finally, an update on energy consumption: In the Christmas Village Waldbreitbach all stations will be set up as usual. The lighting will be slightly shortened to 6 hours daily from 15:00 - 21:00. The lights will not be switched on in the morning. As everything has already been converted to LED in the last few years, the total electricity consumption is only 3,000 KWh for the entire 8 weeks. This is comparable to what a family of 4 uses in a single-family house in a year and corresponds to electricity costs of about 1,000 €.
