On Sunday, 21 May 2023, the next cycling day WIEDer ins TAL will take place from 10:00 - 17:00. The national roads L255 and L269 in the Wiedtal are open for 36 kilometres from Niederbreitbach to Seifen in the Westerwald only for cyclists, inline skaters and pedestrians. ATTENTION: Start this year only in Niederbreitbach, until then the L255 is not closed for vehicles! Please also note the information on the Peterslahr tunnel below. At numerous places along the route, clubs and caterers have set up stands with drinks, barbecue food or coffee and cake, or have opened their beer gardens. Children's entertainment, live music, health checks and raffles provide variety. There will be service stations for repairing minor defects, including roadside assistance and accessory sales. The Cycling Day takes place in the districts of Neuwied and Altenkirchen. The organisers are the municipalities of Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach, Asbach, Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld and Puderbach and the city of Neuwied. They are supported by the Sparkassen Neuwied and Westerwald-Sieg, the VR Bank Rhein-Mosel and the Raiffeisenbank Neustadt. The police, ambulance service and fire brigade will be on duty to ensure that the event runs safely. The Regio lines 125 and 131 will not be running on this day. The organisers ask that cyclists wear helmets for their own safety. Due to the construction site in Altwied, the start will be moved to Niederbreitbach this year. The finish will be in Seifen as before, so the route is 36 kilometres long. In Niederbreitbach, parking spaces are available at the entrance to the town and in the leisure park. The route can be accessed via Kurtscheid or Melsbach. Cyclists arriving from the city of Neuwied or Altwied and Datzeroth can use the signposted Wied cycle path, as the L255 will not be closed to vehicle traffic until Niederbreitbach. In Peterslahr, the cycle path in the former railway tunnel is closed due to construction work. Here, a diversion is only possible via the mountain, which has a gradient of up to 10 percent and several narrow serpentines. Inexperienced cyclists and families with children are asked to be prepared for this situation. A shuttle bus will not be provided this year. Information on programme details is available at www.wieder-ins-tal.de or from the Touristik-Verband Wiedtal e.V. by phone 02638 - 4017 and info@wiedtal.de. The Wied cycle path is now very well developed and signposted and can also be cycled individually at any time. At the beginning of 2021, the still missing signposting from Laubachsmühe to the Rhine was completed.
