Detailed description
It is one of the most extraordinary excursion destinations in the Westerwald. On the approximately 140-hectare site of a former basalt quarry, industrial culture, earth history, and nature come together to create a unique experience.
Historic industrial buildings, interactive experience spaces, and the TERTIÄRUM with its significant fossil exhibition – including the famous Stöffel mouse – bring the history of basalt mining and the formation of the region to life. Fossils were discovered in the deposits of a former maar lake that document around 25 million years of earth history.
Whether on an individual tour or an exciting guided tour through the crusher – the Stöffel Park offers fascinating insights for young and old. A varied event program with concerts, exhibitions, family activities, and workshops complements the offerings. The Café Kohleschuppen invites visitors to linger on Sundays and public holidays.
As a station of the WesterwaldSteig (stamp location No. 10), the Stöffel Park is also a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers.
