Detailed description

In the middle of the Atzelgifter Forest, the Himmelsleiter invites you to a special discovery. A ladder with the inscription “Himmelsleiter” and two wings along the path, just before reaching the World Youth Day Cross, recalls the biblical story of Jacob and his dream of a ladder that reaches to heaven.

Just as Jacob finds orientation and hope on his way, this special place is also meant to invite you to pause, reflect, and gather strength.

The Himmelsleiter is located on the “Wäller Tour Bachgeflüster” hiking trail and is a beautiful destination for everyone who wants to combine nature, tranquility, and a small moment of contemplation.

Elevation difference: around 45 to 60 meters over a short distance
The World Youth Day Cross towers visibly over Atzelgift in the Westerwald and rewards the ascent with an impressive view. At the foot of the Himmelsleiter, the expanded area at the Ehrenhain by the banks of the Kleine Nister invites you to linger and relax.
