Brief description
The Wiedweg, around 117 km long, owes its name to the river of the same name. As the longest river in the Westerwald, the Wied winds from its source on the Westerwald Lake Plateau to its mouth at the Rhine in Neuwied.
Description
Up and down, the Wiedweg leads sometimes as a path, sometimes as a trail, varied and full of experiences along and next to the Wied. Attractive views are guaranteed!
The Wiedweg is divided into seven sections and can be hiked individually:
The Wiedweg is a "modern classic" among Westerwald hiking trails. Creating a "Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland" certified by the German Hiking Association from it was a special challenge. Already in 1992, an initial route was marked by the Westerwald Association and in May 2009 the association opened a newly designed adventure trail along the Wied.
Especially in the upper reaches, numerous trail changes were made in the nature reserve area. The hiker is now guided as naturally and close to the water as possible through the beauties of the Westerwald. Up and down it goes through meadows and forests with unforgettable views on the approximately 117-kilometer-long Wiedweg.
