Spring brings back the joy of cycling and many people are taking the opportunity to get active. Cycling is not only healthy, but also an environmentally friendly alternative that helps to reduce CO2 emissions and avoid rising fuel prices. For these reasons, the municipality of Hachenburg is once again taking part in the Climate Alliance's CITY CYCLING campaign, which is being held for the fourth time this year.
From May 16 to June 5, all citizens are invited to cycle their daily routes in the most climate-friendly way possible. In doing so, they can collect kilometers for their team or their community.
Participation is open to anyone who lives, works, goes to school or is a member of a club in the municipality of Hachenburg. To take part, all you need is a bike and to register at https://www.stadtradeln.de/vg-hachenburg. There they can either join an existing team or set up their own team with friends, colleagues or schoolmates. Up-to-date information on the participating municipalities and the award ceremonies for the best teams and individuals is also available on the website.
After registering, the aim is to collect as many kilometers as possible during the campaign period. The distances covered can be entered via the free CITY CYCLING app, online or by handing in a form to the responsible contact person at the local authority. When using the app, the collected cycling data is evaluated anonymously, which provides the Westerwald district and the municipalities with valuable information for traffic planning. For example, bottlenecks in cycling traffic can be identified and targeted.
On 18.05.2025, there will be a guided cycle tour through "Kroppacher Schweiz", which is organized by the Hachenburger Westerwald tourist information office. You can find this and other guided cycle tours on the homepage www.hachenburger-westerwald.de.
Last year, 1,330 active participants took part in STADTRADELN in the Westerwald district and together covered an impressive 256,024 kilometers, saving around 43 tons of CO2.
Registration for CITY CYCLING 2025 is now open at https://www.stadtradeln.de/vg-hachenburg. If you have any questions or difficulties registering, you can also call the municipal administration on 02662 801-183.
