Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld Tourist Information Office: Sustainability strategically anchored
With the presentation of the certificate, the Tourist Information Office of the Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld municipality underlines its systematic approach to sustainable destination management. The award is based on the criteria of the non-profit organization TourCert, which audits and supports sustainable tourism operators throughout Germany. In the process of becoming a partner business, the team completed an e-learning program on sustainability, carried out a self-assessment of internal processes and defined binding improvement measures. For 2026, the focus is on offering certification for sustainable accommodation, reducing the mobility rate on site and implementing environmentally friendly events with a regional focus. The recognition is valid for three years and is linked to an annual review and update of the measures.
Charlotte vacation apartment: sustainability in a private host business
Another new addition to the partner network is the Charlotte vacation apartment in Hachenburg. The accommodation, which has been awarded three stars by the German Tourism Association (DTV), stands for reliable quality and responsible use of resources. The vacation apartment boasts modern, functional furnishings, the conscious use of energy-efficient technology and a clear focus on regional offerings and short distances. Guests will find an authentic, peaceful vacation experience in the immediate vicinity of the historic old town of Hachenburg and the nature and leisure activities on offer in the Westerwald. With the partner award, Ferienwohnung Charlotte is committed to the continuous improvement process within the framework of "TourCert Qualified" and will implement concrete measures to further strengthen sustainability every year in the future.
"Sustainable Destination Westerwald" network continues to grow
The award for the two partners underlines the growing breadth of the "Sustainable Destination Westerwald" network. This network deliberately thrives on the interaction between municipal institutions and private companies. The aim is to establish sustainability not as an image component, but as a binding quality standard in tourism, measurable, verifiable and practical.
The Westerwald Tourism Service invites other businesses, local authorities and organizations to become part of the network and actively help shape the path we have chosen.
