Detailed description
The Lion Fountain is located in the heart of the Old Market and is one of the most famous landmarks of Hachenburg. Surrounded by historic half-timbered houses, it forms a prominent centerpiece of the town center. The golden lion figure points to the centuries-old connection to the County of Sayn and is also a symbol of the "Lion Town" of Hachenburg. Historically, the fountain can already be traced back to before the year 1439; it originally served as a cistern for the town's water supply. Today, the Lion Fountain creates a pleasant atmosphere amidst the town's life with its gentle splashing water and the historic surroundings. Especially during city tours, events, or a stroll through the Old Market, the Lion Fountain is a popular meeting place. Also as a photo motif, it is simply part of a visit to Hachenburg for many visitors. The Lion Fountain is an authentic place where history, everyday life, and Westerwald small-town charm come together.
