ADAC Eifel Tour from August 15 - 18, 2024

Classic cars present themselves against the most beautiful backdrops

From August 15 to 18, the ADAC Nordrhein invites classic car owners to a nostalgic adventure tour. The ADAC Eifel round trip traditionally takes in the most beautiful spots in the region between the Rhine and Moselle - and this year also includes a trip to the other side of the Rhine towards the Siebengebirge. Well over 60 historic vehicles have registered for this special tour, which starts and finishes at the market square in Königswinter. But it is not only in the picturesque town on the river that there will be opportunities to marvel at the beautifully preserved vehicles, but also during the walking breaks (WP) along the route. On Friday (August 16), the route leads through the Siebengebirge and on Saturday (August 17) through the Eifel. Everything you need to know about the event can be found on the Internet at www.oldtimerwandern-nordrhein.de/eifelrundfahrt.

In Germany, a "classic car" is a vehicle that is 30 years old or older. The range of automotive treasures in the starting field is correspondingly wide. This is where pre-war models meet the generation of vehicles that introduced electronics to cars. Grandpa's dream car has just as much a place here as the comfort sedan of the 1950s. Among them is a Ford Model A Roadster from 1927, which shares the status of the oldest participating vehicle with a Graham Paige from 1928. A BMW 327/28 convertible from 1939 was perhaps before the Second World War what the Jaguar E-Type S2 Roadster (1968) was in the 1960s: objects of desire for sporty car enthusiasts.

But spectators can also experience the more affordable collector's items of yesteryear, especially during the lunch breaks on Friday on the market square in Hachenburg and on Saturday on the market square in Ahrweiler, both from 11:30 am. The VW Beetle is represented several times as a convertible, BMW 280 CS (1971) or Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV (1970) and Giulia Super 1.3 (1972) or Volvo P1800 E Cabriolet (1970) are there as sporty limousines. Of course, Jaguar, Aston Marin, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are also on the list of participants. The owners of these beautiful classics are equally united by their passion for motoring and for exploring picturesque landscapes.

Because that is exactly what the ADAC Eifel Tour is all about: the driving experience and the preservation of automotive heritage. "Classic car touring" is the term for the type of event that became popular back in the 1930s (at the time still known as "automobile touring") and is cultivated by ADAC Nordrhein. Under the motto "Enjoyment takes time", the focus is not on top speed, but on the journey and meeting up with interested people and like-minded people. The ambition of the participants is only tickled during the special stages when, for example, points are at stake in skill and estimation tasks.

This means that the ADAC Eifelrundfahrt is likely to focus on the magnificent scenery and the vehicles worth seeing. In the Siebengebirge on Friday, the route starts in Königswinter and heads east to the vicinity of Ruppichteroth, where the Sieg waterfall in Windeck awaits the participants. The winding route then leads along the Sieg for a while before turning off to Hachenburg for a lunch break. The afternoon then sends the participants westwards again to Waldbreitbach and back to Königswinter.

The route on Saturday invites participants to discover the Eifel, because from Königswinter it goes up to the Eifelhöhe via side roads to Rheinbach to the Glass Museum and Roman Canal Center. From there, the route winds its way south to the Ahr and through the picturesque vineyard scenery to Ahrweiler for a lunch break. This is the perfect opportunity to experience the tour as an onlooker, as there is a break here before continuing towards the Nürburgring. In the afternoon, participants will then head over the Hohe Acht around the traditional Eifel route to the final hiking break at the Wanderath Congress Center. In the afternoon, the return to Königswinter is on the program, where the award ceremony will be celebrated with the participants after the finish.
