In Wissen, I already take the first break to look at Schönstein Castle. Also worth a look are the Heister Chapel, one of the oldest of its kind, and the Catholic parish church Kreuzerhöhung started in the year 1000. In Hachenburg, the castle greets me, which today is the German Bundesbank university. On the old market stands the gilded Sayn coat of arms lion. Also worth seeing is the Stone House (today the “Gasthaus zur Krone”). It is worth taking a stroll through the beautiful town. On the Gräbersberg near Alpenrod, I climb the observation tower and refresh myself in the managed Alpenrod hut. The observation tower offers wonderful views. Shortly after, I come across the Wied spring at Linden. It continues to Dreifelden and its eponymous pond. I swim a bit there and then lie down for a moment on the sunbathing lawn. When I later arrive at Staudt, there is another resting opportunity with a playground on the festival ground.
From Frankfurt: Take A3 to B255 in Heiligenroth, take exit 40-Montabaur on A3, follow B255, B8, L290, B256 and B62 to Walzwerkstraße in Wissen
By train to the station in Wissen.

The challenging route across the Westerwald starts south of Wendlingen and Holschbach at the K 66. I ride south over Alserberg to Wissen and make an eastern arc to Schönstein. After Mittelberg, I turn south again, reach Gebhardshain, Steinebach/Sieg, and after a detour Rosenheim in the Altenkirchen district. I pass Luckenbach and Atzelgift, finally cross the B 414 and pass through Hachenburg. Then it goes on over Alpenrod and Lochum to Linden and subsequently to Dreifelden. I cycle to Obersayn and Arnshöfen towards Niedersayn. I leave this on the right because the route takes me south again to Ötzingen and Staudt. I cross the A 3, Montabaur is just behind. It continues via the B 49 to Niederelbert. At Welschneudorf, I zigzag westwards. Then, at Arzbach, I tackle the last section of the ride to Bad Ems. The route offers some climbs and beautiful descents over more than 95 kilometers.
The route between Wissen/Sieg and Luckenbach is currently not yet signposted.
For bags and backpacks, not only the back offers space on a bike ride – the weight of the equipment should preferably be distributed over several parts of the body and the bike. Riding wind, rain, or sun can lead to quite different temperature sensations on the bike – a cold can be best avoided with professional cycling clothing. On a multi-day route, you should always have suitable change clothes on hand to be prepared for every eventuality. Besides other important equipment, necessary tools and repair utensils should not be forgotten. At high speeds, it’s easy to take a wrong turn on a bike ride: Traditional and modern aids such as a cycling map or a GPS device serve as orientation. You should also always have a small emergency kit with you.
There is much to discover, for example Montabaur with its numerous sights. Also worthwhile is the visitor mine in Steinebach/Sieg.
