Enjoy delicious food, browse comfortably, and shop—all this will take place as the Dillenburg city center gets ready for another special day. On September 28, the retailers and restaurateurs in the heart of the Oranienstadt will open their doors for Sales Sunday under the motto "Dillenburg is(s)t gut!" At the same time, the Hessian State Stud invites everyone to an open house.

By now, "Dillenburg is(s)t gut" has made a name for itself, becoming a popular meeting place for young and old alike, featuring tasty food in a great atmosphere, an appealing supporting program, and many offers from retailers. The shops will be open from 12:00 to 17:00, offering customers the opportunity for a Sunday shopping spree. The retailers are waiting with special bargains and a wide selection of various products. At home, the kitchen can stay cold on this day. Instead, "Dillenburg is(s)t gut!" will set the table, and the AG Kaufleute of the Förderkreis Dillenburg e.V. and the Oranienstadt Dillenburg are inviting everyone to a communal lunch in the city center. From 11:30 to 13:30, visitors can take a seat at the corner of Markt and Hauptstraße. There will be plenty of tables and seating arrangements set up so that guests can enjoy their communal meal comfortably and in peace. Musical entertainment will be provided by the musician André Schüler. For those who wish to enjoy coffee and cake after the meal and stroll, the Heimat- und Verschönerungsverein Donsbach will be welcoming guests for the first time this year starting at 14:00. Additionally, visitors can look forward to further culinary offerings and sweets.

Shopping and Parking

For those wishing to attend Sales Sunday, there are plenty of parking spaces available. From all parking lots, the city center is only a few minutes away on foot. Guests will find free parking at the stadium. There are also many parking spaces available around the town hall that do not require payment. Paid parking is available in the city center at Karlsplatz, in Konrad-Adenauer-Allee, and of course in the parking garage.

Open House at the State Stud

Alongside the vibrant activity in the city center, the Hessian State Stud Dillenburg invites you to an open house on September 28, 2025, at Wilhelmstraße.

Get up close and personal and learn about the daily work at the stud starting at 10:00 AM. Those interested in the profession of horse management can find out about the job profile and training opportunities at the BBR information day, also taking place on that same day at the stud.

In the historic stud facility, visitors can learn everything about the care and management of stud horses, get to know their anatomy, and experience how to handle horses. For riders, the State Riding and Driving School will present its extensive course program.

Those passionate about equestrian sports can look forward to freshly topped rolls and coffee and cake while cheering at the eventing competition starting at 10:00 AM. The three sections will take place in the hall and on the parade ground, providing excitement throughout the day.

Anyone wishing to step back into the founding days of the Hessian State Stud and take a look behind the recently renovated historic backdrop at Wilhelmsstraße should take the opportunity to tour the buildings.

The Hessian State Stud Dillenburg also offers a great program for young guests during the Children's Day at the stud, featuring a hobby-horsing course, a barefoot path, and pony care.

With the integrated Children's Day during the open house, the Hessian State Stud Dillenburg supports a joint action of the German state studs with the association "Pferde für unsere Kinder e. V." The stated goal is to give children insight into life with horses and enable child-friendly learning and experiences. The highlight is the raffle of a wooden horse named Sunny. Anyone can participate by submitting a slip of paper with the name of a kindergarten, etc., into the drawing drum with the relevant information.
