Description

In 1879 Raiffeisen intended to establish a "Societas Caritatis" (Society for social nursing with special consideration of the rural population as an interdenominational community on a voluntary basis). This society was mainly to deal with elderly care. He thought of designing this "Societas Caritatis" modeled on the Waldbreitbach monastic communities. Additionally, in 1868, Waldbreitbach's mayor Reusch had contact with Raiffeisen regarding the founding of a loan association in Waldbreitbach. In 1862, Raiffeisen supported the founding of the Anhausen Savings and Loan Association. This association was another step on the path to the development of the rural cooperative movement.

Start and finish are at the monastery of the Waldbreitbach Franciscan Sisters, Margaretha-Flesch-Straße 12, 56588 Waldbreitbach. In good weather, the Klosterbergterrassen are also open (otherwise at least the restaurant), offering a nice view of the monastery of the Franciscan Brothers in Hausen and the Malberg. From there, the route follows the Wäller Route Bärenkopp down to the Kreuzkapelle and along the Wied riverbank through the Raiffeisenstraße to the Nativity and Bible Museum. Then it continues on the WesterwaldSteig to the monastery of the Franciscan Brothers of the Holy Cross in Hausen / Wied. We follow the trail to Niederbreitbach at the campsite, then up to the Nikolauskapelle and over the Clausberg, finally returning along the monastery path to the Marienhaus.
