In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
We start at the Haus des Gastes in Limbach and soon reach the medieval slate mine Assberg. Through magnificent deciduous forests, we hike into the valley of the Große Nister, where the Cistercian abbey Marienstatt with its early Gothic basilica, the monastery garden, and the Marienstätter brewery await us. Via the monastery walk, we reach the imperial cemetery and begin the ascent to the viewpoint "Beautiful View." Here the name is program, impressively overseeing not only the entire monastery complex but also recognizing the castle of the medieval town of Hachenburg in the distance. We continue to the picturesque village of Astert and from here follow the Große Nister to just before Heuzert. We climb the Hartenberg with another viewpoint and then start the return journey past the Lützelau mill, where the Kleine Nister awaits us and leads us along the wildly romantic Heunig cave path back to Limbach.
From Hachenburg (south): We leave Hachenburg via Graf-Heinrich-Straße and L288. At the end of the street, we turn right onto B413. At the roundabout, we take the second exit to access B414 towards Altenkirchen. We leave this road at the first intersection to the right onto K21, which we immediately leave to the left onto K19. We follow this road through Müschenbach to Astert. Behind Astert, we turn right to stay on K19. After a little more than a kilometer, we turn right onto K20, which we follow to Limbach.
From Altenkirchen (west): We get on B414 towards Hachenburg and follow this road to Müschenbach. At the ED gas station, we turn left onto Hauptstraße, which we follow to the end. There, we turn left onto Hachenburger Straße, which we follow out of Müschenbach. Now we are on K19, which we follow past Astert, where we turn right to stay on K19. After a little more than a kilometer, we turn right onto K20, which we follow to Limbach.
From Betzdorf (north): We leave Betzdorf via L288 and follow this road until after about ten kilometers we turn right towards Luckenbach. We turn left onto L281. After about a kilometer, we turn left onto Marienstätter Weg. We follow this through Atzelgift. We continue on Hochstraße (always straight ahead). When we are out of Atzelgift, we continue straight on K20 to Limbach.
From Hachenburg, there are regular bus connections with bus line 270 to Streithausen, from where it is about a 25-minute walk to Limbach.

Wear sturdy footwear as well as weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you from cold and wet, or heat and sun.
Bring enough fluids with you. There are not always places to stop for refreshments.
Please wear appropriate hiking boots on the route that provide you with enough support even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.
If you think that certain sections of the path are not walkable for you, you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, there may be muddy and slippery passages on natural paths.
Especially in autumn, watch out for fallen leaves on the ground that can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. You must expect this kind of path impairment when hiking.
Although the path is very well marked throughout, for safety reasons you should always carry a suitable hiking map with you.
We should definitely take time for a break in the beautifully designed monastery garden!
