Detailed description
Those who spot the extraordinary breed of cattle in the Westerwald meadows around Steinebach an der Wied will first rub their eyes in disbelief. The longhorned Zebu cattle appear exotic, as they originally come from the Indo-Asian region. However, the Westerwald area suits them so well that they produce excellent meat in organic quality.Nadine and Sascha Ladewig are actually career changers and acquired the Hofgut Salzberg over 12 years ago to pursue their passion for horses and horse breeding. With a lot of personal effort, the farm has developed into what it presents today outside of Steinebach. About 130 hectares of land are included. Zebu cattle are very well suited for areas that cannot be farmed mechanically. They cause less trampling damage and are a relatively robust, low-maintenance breed of cattle. Two herds with a bull, cows, and young animals live on the farm. The primal instinct is still quite pronounced in the animals, and thus Nadine and Sascha Ladewig require a lot of knowledge and experience in their direct handling of the animals, which, with their long horns and the diverse color shading of their fur, present an imposing and attractive stature. The meat is of exceptional quality and EU organic certified. Slaughtering takes place once a month. Marketing is done through the attached small farm shop. Interestingly, there are consumer-friendly sizes available. The meat can be purchased in portions as a frozen offering.
Additionally, the beautifully tanned hides of the animals are offered, as well as house-made apple juice, potatoes, pasta, eggs, egg liqueur, honey, and sausages in the farm shop. The range is expanding.
