Hiking Trail
Route profile
Notice
In the tour planner we inform you under the tab "Current info" about temporary route changes, closures and detours.
A hiking trail starts at St. Mary's House on the monastery hill of the Waldbreitbach Franciscan nuns. The order was founded in 1863 by Margaretha Flesch, who was beatified as Mother Rosa in 2008. In summer, the Klosterberg terraces and the herb and bible garden invite you to take a break or a guided tour.
The circular route continues to the "Maria Himmelfahrt" parish church, where the large natural nativity scene can be admired during the Christmas season. The next stop is the Chapel of the Cross on the banks of the Wied, built in 1694, which served as a home for Margaretha Flesch and later for the founders of the Franciscan order in Hausen. From there, the route continues to the monastery church of the Franciscan Brothers of the Holy Cross, further downstream to Niederbreitbach with the Nikolaus Chapel, into the Fockenbach Valley past the Mutter-Rosa Chapel and back to the starting point. This 12 km circular walk can be extended to include stops at the Bürder chapel, the Verscheid pilgrimage church or the Luhka chapel.
The trail is not marked with a sign throughout. We recommend the Wiedtal hiking map on a scale of 1 : 25,000.

Built in 1694, the Kreuzkapelle chapel on the banks of the Wied is always worth a detour. It became the property of the Hausen Franciscan Brothers in 1925 and is occasionally used for church services.
