Herborn

Protestant town church Herborn

Detailed description

The town church, which is well worth seeing, can certainly be described as Herborn's oldest building, as it was once the centre of a large parish that also included the High Westerwald (first documentary mention of Herborn: 1048). Of the former three towers, only the bell tower has remained since the 19th century. Inside, there is a wide variety of architectural styles from Gothic, Renaissance to Baroque. Also of interest are the grave monuments of important professors of the High School and the sarcophagus of Princess Isabella Charlotte of Nassau-Dillenburg. Visits from 1 May to 3 October on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays between 2 and 4 p.m. and on request at the municipal office (Kirchberg opposite the church, tel. 02772/3337) and at any time as part of the classic guided tour of the town.
