The idyllic village of Waldbreitbach in the Wied Valley has been transformed into the Christmas village of Waldbreitbach for over 30 years. This is not a fenced marketplace or a hut village; the entire village itself is adorned with Christmas attractions and numerous nativity scenes. From November 29, 2025, to January 25, 2026, it will be atmospheric as everything shines in a golden glow. The special feature of the Christmas village Waldbreitbach is that all attractions are spread out across the village and located outdoors. They will remain set up until the last Sunday in January, can be visited daily, and admission is free. For the festive opening, a torchlight parade will take place through the village on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 6:00 PM, where all attractions will be illuminated for the first time this season. The music association Wiedklang will accompany the parade and will play at the end by the craft museum, where mulled wine and Döppekuchen will be served. The large natural root nativity scene in the parish church of Assumption of Mary will also be set up in its usual location this year. Other highlights include the "Star of Bethlehem" - a hiking path adorned with 3,500 light bulbs and over 30 nativity scenes, a floating nativity scene and floating Advent wreath on the Wied, life-sized figures from the Ore Mountains on the church steps, the outdoor nativity scene, and the Schwibbogen nativity scene. For a golden sparkle in the village center, the Christmas illumination at the 18-meter-high guild tree, which has a diameter of 6 meters and nearly 10,000 LEDs, provides a striking display.
Over 70 stations will illuminate the “Nativity Scene Trail”, which runs for about 2 km along the banks of the Wied and through the village. This includes lovingly designed small nativity scenes in shops and private gardens. Guided tours are open on the following dates from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM for €4.00 per person: December 6/7, December 13/14, December 27/28, 2025, as well as January 3/4, 2026. Group tours can be booked at any time.
On the 2nd and 3rd Advent weekends (December 6/7 and December 13/14, 2025), the Christmas village will also host the Christkindchen market. Musical associations and musicians from the region will perform on stage amidst the festive market atmosphere. The Christkindchen will visit the market every afternoon during all 4 days, distributing small gifts to the children and happily posing for photos with visitors.
From December 8-12, December 15-19, and December 27, 2025 - January 11, 2026, the Christmas village booth in Schmiddepark will be open from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. There, winemaker's mulled wine, hot cocoa with cream, Lumumba, and Bockwurst in a bun will be offered.
Additionally, this year on December 6 and 7, the popular DIY bazaar will take place again at the Kolpinghaus. Here, you can purchase lovingly handmade gifts and warm up with coffee and homemade cakes.
New this year: The big raffle with over 200 instant prizes worth nearly €6,000. Tickets can be purchased for only €1 in the village; half of the proceeds will be donated to the Vor-Tour der Hoffnung.
The Christmas Village Rally for children and young people up to 18 years old will also take place again this season. Here, 10 questions about the Christmas village need to be answered. If you submit the completed quiz form to the Tourist Information by January 25, 2026, you will receive a small surprise there! Enjoy! To round off a day trip to the Wied Valley, a lunch or coffee & cake in one of the restaurants and cafes is recommended. Reservations are strongly advised even for small groups. The Tourism Association Wiedtal sends free informational material, and visitors will find souvenirs or Christmas gifts at the local Tourist Information.
On January 31, 2026, VfL Waldbreitbach will host the Christmas tree throwing event. Finally, a current note on energy consumption: In the Christmas village Waldbreitbach, all stations will be set up as before. The lighting will be on daily from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The lighting will not be turned on in the morning. Since everything has already been converted to LED in recent years, the total electricity consumption for the entire 8 weeks is only 3,000 kWh. This is comparable to what a family of four in a single-family home consumes in a year and corresponds to electricity costs of about €1,000.
