Weihnachtsdorf Waldbreitbach

Description

The idyllic place of Waldbreitbach in the Wied valley has been transformed into the Christmas Village of Waldbreitbach for over 30 years now. This is not just a fenced market square or a village of huts; the entire town itself is adorned with Christmas attractions and numerous nativity scenes.

From November 29, 2025, to January 25, 2026, the atmosphere will be festive as everything shines in golden glory. The special feature of the Christmas Village Waldbreitbach is that all attractions are spread out throughout the village in the fresh air. They will remain set up until the last Sunday in January, can be visited daily, and entry is free.

To celebrate the grand opening, there will be a torchlight procession through the town on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 6:00 PM, during which all attractions will be lit up for the first time this season. The music club Wiedklang will accompany the procession and will also play at the Crafts Museum at the end, where mulled wine and Döppekuchen will be served.

The large root nativity scene in the parish church of Maria Himmelfahrt will again be set up at its usual spot this year. Other highlights include the "Star of Bethlehem" - a hiking trail adorned with 3,500 light bulbs and over 30 nativity scenes, a floating nativity scene and a floating Advent wreath on the Wied, life-sized figures from the Erzgebirge on the church steps, the open-air nativity scene, and the Schwibbogen nativity scene. A Christmas illumination at the 18-meter-high guild tree with a 6-meter diameter and almost 10,000 LEDs will create a golden sparkle in the center of the village.

In total, over 80 stations will illuminate the "Nativity Trail," which runs for about 2 km along the banks of the Wied and through the village. This also includes lovingly designed small nativity scenes in shops and private gardens. Open tours will take place on the following days from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM for €4.00 per person: On December 6/7, 13/14, 20/21, 27/28/25, and January 3/4/26. Group tours can be booked at any time.

On the 2nd and 3rd Advent weekends (December 6/7 and December 13/14, 2025), the Christmas Village will additionally host the Christkindchen Market. Music clubs and musicians from the region will perform on stage during the festive market activities. The Christkindchen will also visit the market every afternoon over the four days, distributing small gifts to children and happily posing for photos with visitors.

Additionally, this year on December 6 and 7, the popular DIY market will take place at the Kolping House. There, you can purchase lovingly crafted gifts and warm up with coffee and homemade cake.

The nativity museum "Gustel's Krippen- und Bibelwelt" will also be open this season. Monday to Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Groups can visit by appointment.

From December 15, 2025, to January 11, 2026, the Christmas Village booth in Schmiddepark will be open daily from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Snacks and drinks will be offered there.

New this year: The large raffle with over 200 instant wins worth almost €6,000. Tickets are available in the village for just €1, half of which will be donated to the "Vor-Tour der Hoffnung."

The Christmas Village rally for children and teenagers up to 18 years old will take place again this season. Here, 10 questions about the Christmas Village need to be answered. If you submit the completed quiz by January 25, 2026, at the Tourist Information, you will receive a small surprise there! Enjoy!

To round off a day trip to the Wied Valley, you can enjoy lunch or coffee & cake in one of the restaurants and cafés. Reservations are highly recommended, even for small groups. The Tourism Association Wiedtal sends out free informational materials; visitors will find souvenirs or Christmas gifts at the Tourist Information on site.

On January 31, 2026, the VfL Waldbreitbach will host the Christmas tree throwing event.

Lastly, a current note on energy consumption: In the Christmas Village Waldbreitbach, all stations will be set up as before. Lighting will be on daily from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The lighting will not be turned on in the morning. Since everything has already been converted to LED in recent years, the total electricity consumption for the entire 8 weeks is only 3,000 kWh. This is comparable to what a family of four in a single-family house consumes in a year and corresponds to electricity costs of about €1,000.
