Hachenburg – the pearl of the Westerwald

No other town in the Westerwald is as charming as the town of Hachenburg in the Rhineland-Palatinate’s Westerwald. The town, which was once the residence of the Counts of Sayn, nestles in a fairy-tale landscape between the major German cities of Frankfurt and Cologne. Its Baroque charm and vibrant cultural life, and the hospitality of the local Westerwald people win over locals and tourists on every visit. It’s no wonder that many locals consider it the secret cultural capital of the Westerwald.

The Hachenburger Westerwald recreation area

Westerwalders and holidaymakers are greeted from afar by the extensive castle grounds of the Counts of Sayn on the basalt hilltop. Stroll to the foot of the Hachenburg Castle on elegant paths through the castle gardens. Imposing trees and sculptures, a children’s playground, a tranquil mini-golf course and an open-air museum help you relax and enjoy the moment.
Once in the town centre, walk through the narrow, winding streets and discover Baroque half-timbered buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Stroll past inviting little shops and enjoy the colourful hustle and bustle in the Old Market Square. The numerous Hachenburg cafés and restaurants invite you to enjoy local Westerwald delicacies, before you enjoy the peace and quiet of your chosen accommodation.
